BIO

I was born in Cardiff, South Wales in 1965 and I emigrated to South Africa with my family in 1969. In the mid seventies, at the tender age of ten I took a keen interest in music and tried to teach myself how to play the guitar. It didn't take me long to figure out that it was the deeper end of the musical spectrum that interested me the most and would later become my true calling. I formed a band with a couple of mates in the early eighties and we called ourselves Hard Ride. We played covers and also wrote our own songs. In 1984 we were all called upon to start our compulsory two year national service and I was sent up to the 6th South African Infantry Battalion in Grahamstown. I wasted no time in starting the unit's first commercial rock/pop band. We toured around the Eastern Cape and also did a tour of the war torn borders of our country. I was awarded a medal and released from my military duties in 1986 and joined up with my old friend from Hard Ride, Patrick O'Shea, on guitar.

The band was called Sudan and we grew from a duo to a six piece band before too long. At this stage I decided to study music and enrolled at The Gary Deacon School of Music where I learned to read & write music. I also learned the fine art of sequencing music to create backing tracks for when we played as a duo in smaller venues. I am now an avid Cubase user and I have produced albums for solo musicians. I have also honed my guitaring and keyboard playing abilities by playing these parts on other people's albums.

A couple of years ago I started teaching music to a few select bassists and although I found it fulfilling, it just ended taking most of my time and I decided to go into the custom backing track business full time..

I have done quite a lot of recording sessions as a bassist and also as a lead vocalist/harmony vocalist. In 2008 I joined an acoustic, vocal orientated band called Tanglewood. In this band harmony came first and music second. This was a first for me and I learned so much about vocal arrangements, thanks to these guys.

Although I loved playing with Tanglewood, I left the band at the end of August 2015 as I was returning to the UK.
